We offer a fully furnished one-bedroom suite in the heart of District 1881 for just $50 a night. It is steps from shops and restaurants and only minutes from the hospital. If it is your first visit to check out the region, your weekend stay is on us. Comfortable, convenient, and move-in ready, the suite gives you space to settle in and focus on what matters: getting to know the community and finding your fit.

Family physicians and nurse practitioners are supported through a mix of privately owned clinics, health authority facilities, and community-based programs. The province’s Primary Care Network (PCN) model connects providers to interdisciplinary teams, ensuring patients receive coordinated, comprehensive care across settings.
Introduced as an alternative to traditional fee-for-service billing, the Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) Payment Model offers blended compensation based on time spent with patients, complexity of care, and overall panel size. It also recognizes indirect care and administrative work, supporting continuity, reducing administrative burden, and promoting physician flexibility and well-being. This model has positioned BC as a leader in modernized physician compensation and has inspired similar reforms across Canada.

What are the payment models available for a family doctor?
British Columbia offers several flexible payment models to suit your practice style and career stage. You can explore full details through BC Family Doctors or Doctors of BC. (membership may be required), or reach out to us for a personalized overview.
Longitudinal Family Physician Payment Model
This blended model compensates physicians based on time spent with patients, the complexity of care, and the size of their patient panel. It also accounts for indirect care and administrative work, supporting continuity and physician well-being while promoting flexibility and professional autonomy.
New To Practice Contract Payment Model (NTP)
Designed primarily for new graduates, this hours-based contract supports physicians as they build their patient panel within an existing clinic. It offers financial stability while they develop a full-scope family practice, with both full- and part-time options available.
Although it is a payment model designed primarily for new graduates, it is also available for experienced physicians who are interested in building a patient panel within an established clinic. The NTP contract provides financial stability while the physician develops a community-based longitudinal family practice. The contract is hours-based: full-time physicians are required to provide between 1,680 and 2,100 hours of clinic-based family practice services per year, with part-time options available.
Fee For Service Payment Model
Physicians receive payment for each service provided, based on standardized rates outlined in the Physician Master Agreement.
How do I become licensed to work as a family doctor in BC?
To practice in British Columbia, you must be licensed through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC). They oversee physician registration, practice standards, and licensing requirements.
